Nancy Wyman, Former Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut

“To violate the rights of a few is to violate the rights of all.” Nancy Wyman’s opening statement in support of Bill #7395 – “An Act Concerning Marriage Equality,” in March of 2007. In 2008, same-sex marriage became legal in Connecticut by court order.

Nancy Wyman has been a resident of Tolland for 50 years and is married to Michael Wyman. Their two daughters and their families all live in Tolland.

Nancy Wyman has a long and distinguished career in public service:

  • Tolland Board of Education, 8 years.
  • State Representative from the 53rd district of Connecticut for four terms (1987-1995)
  • In 1994, she was the first woman ever elected State Comptroller. For 16 years, she advocated on behalf of taxpayers for fiscal responsibility and accountability. 
  • She served as the 108th Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, from 2011 to 2019.

In 2007, Nancy spearheaded the effort to establish Connecticut’s Wall of Honor, a tribute at the State Capitol that honors the military men and women who lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Nancy is a longtime supporter of the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, fundraises for breast cancer research, and has been closely involved with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the National Kidney Foundation, and the American Heart Association.
